With all the mods I’ve been doing, I’ve had to pull off the Triumph seat several times. Let me tell you, it is a pain. in. the. arse. The stock bolts are quite recessed and very hard to get to. Not only that, they’re in the shadows so it’s difficult to see to get the 4mm Allen key seated properly. After the fifth time of scraping and clawing to undo the bolts, I did some Googling to see what was available as an alternative. Even DIY with wing nuts or hinge bolts would make seat removal much easier.

I settled with British Customs Quick Release Seat Screws. They are basically extra long bolts that extend past the edge of the seat and are meant to be hand tightened.

Nothing fancy with this mod. Simply remove the stock bolts with a 4mm hex key and screw in the BC bolts.

At $26.95, these are completely overpriced but they are well made and they have made life easier. I’ve had to remove the seat twice since and no frustration was involved. I recommend, however, that you apply a smidgeon of blue Loctite each time you reseat them. As they are meant to be hand tightened, I found that they will loosen up from the vibrations. Using blue will provide a tight grip that can easily be cracked.

UPDATE: January 13, 2015
These things are, a, LIFE SAVER. The temperature was in the teens (F) today and the bike wouldn’t start. It needed a jump. BAM, I had the seat off in 30 seconds and the bike running in two minutes. Had I had the seat bolted in with the hex head screws, this would have been a 20 minute affair.
